Protect your hearing

Ever wondered why you get ringing in your ears after being at a concert or nightclub?  Loud noise causes the tiny and delicate hairs in your inner ear bend or lay down, which results in the ringing or extra sounds.   After a period of recovery they straighten out again.  However, repeated exposure will eventually kill these hair cells, resulting in hearing loss.

Repeated exposure to loud noise over time damages your hearing.

Here’s our top tips for protecting your hearing…

  • Use hearing protection such as foam ear plugs or ear defenders for anything over 85 decibels. There are apps that can measure sound level.

  • When at concerts try and move away from the loudest areas or being directly in front of speakers.

  • Avoid loud volumes in earphones, turn the volume down until it is at a comfortable level (approximately 60%).

  • Give your ears time to recover after exposure to loud noise – about 18 hours.

  • Never put anything larger than your elbow inside your ear (including cotton buds!)

  • Keep Moving! Cardiovascular activities not only get blood circulating to your vital organs but also your ears, helping them stay healthy.
