Could our EARS be the new fingerprint?

Our ears are completely unique and as individual to us as our fingerprints. When we are born our ears are fully formed and aside from becoming a little bigger remain the same throughout our life.

Biometric scanning often used for facial recognition shows that ear recognition to be 99.6% accurate – that’s the same as fingerprints.

The uniqueness is not limited to our outer ear…we all process sounds differently too. In our inner ear, the cochlea contains microscopic hairs that detect sound waves and turn them into electrical signals to our brain. As they do this they produce their own faint sound that is unique to us. The slightest differences in the shape and bone density within our ear may also contribute to how we hear a sound. This may have a bearing on our likes and dislikes for certain musical chords, or music styles.
