Why Can’t I Have My Ear Wax Removed by my GP?

It’s no secret that the NHS is under a huge amount of pressure and even more so with a global pandemic.  Unfortunately, ear-wax removal is no longer a funded service within the NHS and therefore, many GP’s have decided to withdraw the service.

However, it’s not all bad news…for most of us wax will clear itself, particularly if softened with olive oil.  Some of us produce excessive amounts perhaps due to narrowed or hairy ear canals, older age, the use of hearing aids or ear plugs and even cotton buds.  Once they canal becomes blocked it often needs to be removed.

So, what are the benefits of having the procedure carried out privately?

Ear ‘syringing’ or irrigation the method used in GP surgeries has now been superseded by Microsuction which is now the gold standard for removing ear wax.  It is far safer and generally more comfortable.

Ear Matters Exeter only use Microsuction and the procedure is carried out under high magnification and a fine, sterile suction device gently removes the wax.  It is ONLY carried out by very experienced who are trained to the highest standard.

Ear Matters Exeter offer timely appointments within dedicated clinics in Exeter.  Alternatively, Rebecca or Joanna can visit you in the comfort of your own home.
