Olive, rather than sunflower!

Olive oil is often recommended for ear care, particularly when people are trying to soften earwax. Earwax, also known as cerumen, is a natural substance produced by glands in the ear canal. It protects the ear by trapping dust and small particles and by helping to prevent infection. Sometimes, however, wax can become dry or build up, which may lead to discomfort or temporary hearing reduction. A few drops of olive oil can help soften the wax, making it easier for the ear to clear it naturally.

Olive oil is commonly used because it is gentle, stable, and well tolerated by the delicate skin of the ear canal. It has been used for centuries in traditional health care and is widely available. Its smooth consistency allows it to coat and soften wax effectively without usually causing irritation. Medical professionals and pharmacists often recommend pharmaceutical-grade olive oil drops or specially prepared ear sprays that contain purified olive oil.

Sunflower oil, although safe for many cooking uses, is not usually recommended for ear care. One reason is that it is less commonly studied or used in ear treatments, so there is less clinical guidance about its effects in the ear canal. Olive oil, by contrast, has a longer history of use in ear care products and is more widely accepted in medical practice. In addition, some sunflower oils may be more prone to oxidation, which can affect their stability over time.

For ear care, it is always best to use products designed for medical use and to seek professional advice if ear pain, persistent blockage, or hearing changes occur. Simple treatments like olive oil can be helpful, but they should be used carefully and appropriately. 👂🌿
